and a self portrait, because they are good for the soul. dslr selfies are awkward, let's talk about that
as far as weather goes, i decided i like/can handle utah march through december. for the past year i've been battling the unspeakable urge to move to the bay area where it's cardigan weather year round except for september when it's actually summer, and except for december when it's actually more like fall than winter. so here's my breakdown of weather in utah, and the months that i can stand. i'm starting with march because january and february, well, you know.
march is my birthday month, there are a few random warmer spring days, it's okay. april and may are actually really pretty nice in utah, spring has sprung and it's like, okay, okay, we can do dis. june is just the best month anywhere, i'm pretty sure, and utah is no exception. i worship june. july is that perfect, fulfilling summer kind of hot riddled with fireworks, celebrations, swimming pool days, and family barbeques. august is a just slightly less fun version of july and school is starting in most cases so we get new clothes and pencils and i'm pretty sure everyone in utah has memory loss because these peeps get excited for back-to-school like don't you remember how things turned out last time you went back-to-school? september is when it's still hot outside but everyone likes to pretend it's fall because you don't gladly live in utah unless you secretly (or openly) love when it cools off, so that one cool day that month everyone wears their brand new winter gear. october is when it actually is fall and the weather is quintessentially perfect as everyone pretends september is. november is still that perfect fall weather but with the slightest beginnings of winter, people bust out their boots and pumpkin scented candles and suddenly there is no way you can wait fourteen more days til thanksgiving, or two months until christmas. the weather starts to become foul in november, but everyone pretends not to notice because it's the ambiance. your cozy thanksgiving meal actually tastes better when it's freezing cold outside. it's just how it works. december in utah is perfect because everyone wants a white christmas. and even though sometimes you don't get an actual white christmas day, you get a white christmas month, and you're okay with it.
and then you're inevitably faced with january. january at first is okay, because everyone loves new year's and the first week of school, because, again with the memory loss. but after approximately one week back at school, or work, everyone starts griping because their car almost flipped across the partition on the freeway during that snowstorm, no that other snowstorm, no the one that happened this morning before the sky cleared for a few minutes then it started snowing again and oh wait, it's snowing again. january lasts approximately three months. and the thing about january is that it's practically february. you see, there's no real transition from the one month to the next. it's all just janebruary. for a while now i've been calling january ISITSTILLMUTHAF#$^JANUARY !?!? and i've renamed february to ISITSTILLMUTHA#@$%#FEBRUARY??!. it's perplexing to see others smile in february. february has valentine's day and that is nice. but that's only one nice day amid a month that is exactly 78 days long, and you haven't seen sunshine, nor remembered what laughter feels like, and you're wondering if you and the rest of these people are ever going to make it out of february.
and then it's march and suddenly there's a day where for some reason it got warm enough to make the snow melt just enough to envision the land green instead of white. making it to march 1st is cause for celebration.
and for some reason, even though you swore all janebruary that you and your whole family were packing up and moving to san diego as soon as the skies cleared, for some reason utah's spring and summer trick you into it and somehow you're committed for another twelve months and conversationally telling yourself would you just look how fast the last twelve months flew by. i mean flew by!!!! and before you know it, it's august, and you're applying to the university of utah, where you plan to receive a bachelor's degree, or something like that.
i don't know. glutton for punishment, i guess.
let's do this, utah.

That is THE TRUTH if I ever heard it!! Every January/February I wonder why I live here, and the rest of the year I love it here (mostly)and then it's this viscous cycle that keeps repeating itself for something like...twenty years now. But that october and november. I live for that.
Keeeelllliiiii. Now I want to pull out my pumpkin spice candles and wear boots and bake. NEED FALL NOOOOWW.
I agree with Brissa! You made me SO excited for fall! And it just BARELY stopped being so humid here. (hopefully for good) And it seems like fall really WILL come!
PERFECT description of Utah's seasons. I spend most of August and September worrying about January and February.. The anticipation kills me.
